Day One
Arrive Port Elisabeth and Explore

Fly into Port Elizabeth and collect your pre-booked car hire and head off to your beach hotel.  Depending on your arrival time you may want to visit the aquarium or spend some time relaxing on the beach.  You can dine at the waterfront casino and perhaps be entertained by “lady Luck” before retiring for the night.  For a different type of evening there is a theatre and a pub/bar opposite called the “Stage Door” where meals are served – old with a great atmosphere
Overnight Port Elizabeth.

Day Two
You leave Port Elizabeth and travel east on the N2 towards Grahamstown. The Addo Elephant Park, home to the Big 5 and over 400 elephants is situated only 40 km north Port Elizabeth, should you wish to visit the wildlife we would recommend you reserve at least half a day. Continuing your journey along the N2 for another 80 km, you will reach the town of Grahamstown, home to Rhodes University and the host town for the annual National Arts Festival.

The drive from Grahamstown through to East London takes you through the area known as Frontier Country, one of the most diverse ecological regions in South Africa.
The approximate distance between Port Elizabeth and East London is 285 km.
Overnight East London

Day Three
East London

Places of interest in East London

This coastal city on the Eastern Cape’s Sunshine Coast is the only river port in South Africa.
The city boasts some of the finest beaches in the world with Nahoon Reef being an international surfing destination.
The East London Museum is regarded as one of the best in the country and is home to the only known Dodo egg in existence.  There are a number of game reserves close to the city where one can view species such as lion and elephant.

There is a large selection of theatres, cinemas and restaurants to choose from when the sun goes down and the Bisho Casino is but a stone’s throw away.
Overnight in East London

Day four
Resume your tour along the N2 for 230km before reaching Mthatha. The drive will take you through rolling green hills dotted with small villages with colourful thatch Rondavels.  However, we strongly advise not to drive at night in the Ciskei as Cattle and other domestic farm animals will sometimes sleep on the warm roads.  This makes for a serious hazard.

Town of Mthatha

This is Madiba country as the former president Nelson Mandela was born in the nearby village of Mvezo.  Qunu, just over 30km from the city is the childhood home of Madiba. The Nelson Mandela National Museum can be found in Mthatha. The city is regarded as the gateway to the resorts along the Wild Coast.

There are two possible routes to take from Mthatha. One could carry on along the N2 towards Kokstad or alternatively take the R61 to the coastal town of Port St Johns. This route is thought to be one of the most spectacular drives in the country.

Overnight Port St Johns or Kokstad

Day Four
If you are leaving from Port St Johns travel inland on the R61 passing Lusikisiki and Flagstaff before linking up to the N2 near Kokstad. From Kokstad the road takes you to Port Shepstone on the Kwa Zulu Natal Dolphin Coast. The N2 continues along the coast.  The South Coast of Natal is famous as a holiday area.  You pass through many small towns Ramsgate, Margate and Amanzimtoti before arriving in Durban.
Overnight Durban

Day Five
If you are ending your tour in Durban and flying out you can drop the car off at Durban King Shaka Airport.

The above is a basic tour idea leaving you to fill it out with extra days here and there.  The wildlife is great in Addo and is a Malaria free area.  Most of the beaches are also ‘Blue flag’  So its freedom & fun all the way.

With the launch of the Boeing 747, Jumbo Jet, International travel became affordable to most travellers.  The 747 has now ceased being build and the Airbus A380 has taken over.  International Airlines such as Emirates, & Etihad conceived the idea of low-cost flights from the inception of the Jumbo Jet.  Greater loads equate to lower costs yet more efficiency.  Thereby encouraging the explosion in the Tourism industry.  It was once said – The World suddenly became a Smaller Place.

Birth of the Jumbo Jet age

On February 9, 1969, the “City of Everett” became the first Boeing 747 ever to fly.  It lifted off from the new runway at Boeing’s specially-built 747 factory in Everett, Washington.  Construction continued, lasted 41 years and ended in approximately 2010 having built 1500 Passenger Jumbo jets. International Airline and Domestic Airlines continue to expand increasing their competitive edge by introducing low-cost flights.  Some airlines were launched as economical low-cost airlines from inception.

From the first introduction launch of the Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet in 1969 aviation history was made. Tourism and international airline travel kicked into high gear.  The entire industry across the world had to expand their airports to cater for these wide-bodied Jumbo Jets.  The Boeing Jumbo jet was the beginning of large capacity airlines. Widebody or Heavys as they were called.  Capable of moving large numbers of passengers economical around the world.  Virtually all major countries climbed into this new Jumbo Jet era…   International Airline transportation and added Jumbo Jets to their fleet of ailing Boeing 707s and VC 10 aircraft.
Today it is estimated that there are over 1 000 000 passengers flying through our sky’s at any given moment to worldwide airports.  This includes International Airlines as well as Domestic Airlines and air travel still continues to grow!

The end of the Boeing 747 era

International airlines have been slowly changing their fleet to twin-engine, more fuel-efficient aircraft with lower noise levels and lighter carbon fibre construction.  The double-deck Airbus A380 now exceeds the Boeing Jumbo’s carrying capacity and efficiency.

International Airline flights to South Africa
