History of British Airways
British Airways was formed in March 1974 as a result of a merger between two international and two domestic carriers. A six-metre bronze statue of former president Nelson Mandela was unveiled in the square in 2004.  Lilliesleaf Farm where the former president lived in the early 1960’s is not far from the square in Rivonia. The Sandton Convention Centre is one of the largest of its kind in Africa and hosted the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002.

Monte Casino is an entertainment complex near Fourways boasting a casino, cinemas, a mall and two theatres. A little further to the northwest of Sandton is the Lion Park where visitors can play with lion cubs and feed the giraffes!
