Day One

Day Two
Depart Knysna for Plettenberg Bay approx 33 km. As you drive along the N2 towards Plettenberg Bay    you will pass the Knysna Elephant Sanctuary, Wolf sanctuary, Rapture sanctuary and various country shops that will draw your attention’ daily tours are offered.

Birds of Eden
Situated a few kilometres east of Plettenberg Bay.  The Birds of Eden Sanctuary is the largest single span aviary in the world. The sanctuary covers an area of 2 hectares and is home to over 2000 birds.

Monkeyland
A must for the little ones as well as the (big ones) fun for the whole family.  The primate sanctuary offer guided tours and was created by the same people as Birds of Eden.

Tsitsikamma
Continuing on the N2 past Nature’s Valley one comes to The Tsitsikamma National Park, a forested area with an 80km coastline. The Storms River mouth, starting point for the Otter Trail, can be found in the park.  The Park is worth a visit where a short walk up along the river to the Pedestrian suspension bridges can be intriguing before return for lunch in their restaurant.

The Bloukrans Bridge on the Eastern Cape, Western Cape border is well known for being the highest bungee jump in the world, as stated in the Guinness Book of Records.  Even if you don’t take the plunge;  but only to observe, it is a heart stopping experience for most of us.

Continue east on the N2 passing the surfing mecca of Jeffreys Bay and on to Port Elizabeth. George to Port Elizabeth is approximately  324 km

Day 3
Addo Elephant Park

To appreciate the National Park we recommend a full day is for this wildlife experience.   The Park is situated 40km north of P.E. in the malaria-free Sundays River valley. Home to the Big 5, the park also boasts over 400 elephants.

At this point you have a choice:-

This city which was first proclaimed a town in 1811 is known as the capital of the Garden Route. Day Two
There are two suggested Scenic Routes to choose from:-

1. George to Knysna via Seven Passes Road.
From George follow the Saasveld Road towards the Nelson Mandela University (George Campus) and onto the Seven Passes Road. The road was completed in 1882 and remained the main road connecting Knysna and George until the N2 was opened in 1952. The Seven Passes Road is a national monument that crosses 10 rivers and goes through 7 Gorges on its way to Knysna. You will pass through villages such as Hoekwil, Karatara and Rheenendal as you wind through the Outeniqua Mountains. Phantom Pass is the final pass and brings the traveller out on the N2 roughly 7 km from Knysna.

2. George to Knysna via Wilderness and Sedgefield. (most popular)
Depart from George on the N2. The road winds though the Kaaiman’s River Pass and up to Dolphin Point, a popular whale watching viewpoint. From here one can gaze down on the seemingly endless beach at Wilderness. Your route continues past Wilderness to Sedgefield, an official ‘Slow Town’ surrounded by lakes or vleis on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other. From Sedgefield the road continues winding through the hills and valleys for another 28km to Knysna.

3. George to Mossel Bay.
Depart George on the N2 travelling westwards towards the Blue Flag beaches of Mossel Bay.  The first European explorer, Bartholomew Diaz, dropped anchored in the Bay in 1488.   Bartholomew Diaz Caravel is on view in the museum.

4. George to Oudtshoorn.
Depart George heading north to Oudtshoorn up and over the 800m Outeniqua Pass.

Knysna.
Knysna is a charming little town.  Situated on the shores of the Knysna lagoon, home to over 200 species of fish as well as the famous endangered Knysna seahorse. Two immense sandstone cliffs known as the Heads guard the the lagoon’s entrance. The first record of settlement goes back to the late 1700’s.  Although George Rex who is regarded as the town’s founder only arrived in the early 1800’s.  He is buried in a solitary grave next the N2 as you head west out of Knysna.

The Knysna Waterfront is a hive of restaurants and entertainment where one can book a ferry trip,  yacht charter or perhaps a dinner cruise aboard the famous Paddle cruiser. Knysna lagoon does a few beaches such as Bollard Bay.  Others  are only reachable by boat on the opposite shore.

All cabin classes offer personal touch screens with audio-video-on-demand (AVOD).  AVOD features over 80 movies in several languages as well as TV programs, music and games.
