Day One
You fly into George Airport and collect your pre-booked Car Hire. From George Airport take the N2 and travel through Wilderness and Sedgefield before arriving in Knysna. This stunning drive lends itself to many photographic opportunities.  You pass the endless beaches of Wilderness and the Lake District surrounding Sedgefield.   The distance covered is only 63km before crossing the Lagoon into Knysna, but with photo stops along the way it may take as much as 2 or 3 hours.

Knysna

Knysna is situated in the heart of the Garden Route exactly 34 degrees south of the equator. The town lies on the banks of a beautiful lagoon. The entrance to the lagoon is guarded by two massive cliffs known as the Heads.

Knysna Waterfront
The Knysna Waterfront is a vibrant hive of activity. There are a number of shops & restaurants in the complex offering exquisite views of the lagoon and The Heads. Ferries and yacht charters offer lagoon cruises departing daily, weather permitting, from the Waterfront.

Forest Trails
Knysna is surrounded by lush indigenous forest. There are a variety of walking and hiking trails in the area to choose from.

Overnight Knysna or continue to Plettenberg Bay.

Day Two
Depart Knysna for Plettenberg Bay approx 33 km. As you drive along the N2 towards Plettenberg Bay    you will pass the Knysna Elephant Sanctuary, Wolf sanctuary, Rapture sanctuary and various country shops that will draw your attention’ daily tours are offered.

Plettenberg Bay

This seaside town is only 33km from Knysna and is one of the most popular destinations for both local and overseas visitors. The town lies very close to the border between the Western and Eastern Cape provinces.

Places of interest in Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay boasts some of the best beaches on the South African coastline. Boat cruises offering whale watching in season while surfers will find a break at two of the main beaches.

Birds of Eden
Situated a few kilometres east of Plettenberg Bay.  The Birds of Eden Sanctuary is the largest single span aviary in the world. The sanctuary covers an area of 2 hectares and is home to over 2000 birds.

Monkeyland
A must for the little ones as well as the (big ones) fun for the whole family.  The primate sanctuary offer guided tours and was created by the same people as Birds of Eden.

Tsitsikamma
Continuing on the N2 past Nature’s Valley one comes to The Tsitsikamma National Park, a forested area with an 80km coastline. The Storms River mouth, starting point for the Otter Trail, can be found in the park.  The Park is worth a visit where a short walk up along the river to the Pedestrian suspension bridges can be intriguing before return for lunch in their restaurant.

BlouKrans Bungy Jump
The Bloukrans Bridge on the Eastern Cape, Western Cape border is well known for being the highest bungee jump in the world, as stated in the Guinness Book of Records.  Even if you don’t take the plunge;  but only to observe, it is a heart stopping experience for most of us.

Continue east on the N2 passing the surfing mecca of Jeffreys Bay and on to Port Elizabeth. George to Port Elizabeth is approximately  324 km

Day 3
Addo Elephant Park

To appreciate the National Park we recommend a full day is for this wildlife experience.   The Park is situated 40km north of P.E. in the malaria-free Sundays River valley. Home to the Big 5, the park also boasts over 400 elephants. 
Overnight Addo or return to P.E.

At this point you have a choice:-
1. To drop your car hire at Port Elizabeth and catch your pre-booked cheap flight back home.
2. Continue to Drive north to Durban. Approximately 850km
3. To drop your car hire at Port Elizabeth and catch your pre-booked cheap flight up to Durban airport  Collect your pre booked car hire and extend your holiday to either the Drakensburg Mountains or north through Swaziland to Kruger Park.

Book cheap flightsTo assist you with your decisions, there are Airports and Car Hire depots at, Port Elizabeth, Durban and the Kruger Park area, (Hoedspruit in the north and Nelspruit KMI in the south).  Avoid last minute bookings, they often turn out to be expensive.   So what are you waiting for?
